David’s stay in China this past semester (Fall 08) was for only 2 months due to visa restrictions. However, though the time was shorter, the effect seemed to be more powerful and productive.
Much success and progress were made with the students both in regards to spiritual maturity and Bible study. The focus was on a survey of the Bible for many new believers concentrating on Genesis - evolution vs. Creation, arguments for the existence of God and the reliability of the Bible. We swept through the Bible very quickly from Genesis to the Exodus through the Babylonian captivity pointing to the priesthood and sacrificial system and the desert experience of the Israelites. We continued with looking up, reading and discussing the fulfilled Messianic prophecies to confirm that the Bible is indeed different from all of the other book s written by other religious leaders. Lastly we reviewed the scriptures regarding the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ “which is nearer than when we first believed” and the coming judgment of the world and establishment of the Kingdom of God forever. This is one message that is forbidden to teach in the public church.
David continued with the counseling prayer ministry with the students. This has been the most successful technique seen over his 30 years of ministry. The students are eager to learn the Bible truths and apply them but fine themselves (like many of us) trapped in a mode of knowing what to do but can’t seem to do it. This personal ministry that David is using has had a 95% success rate of helping them experience God’s truth in the specific issue that is troubling them. Hearing God’s truth that comes by the Holy Spirit sets them free. It’s been wonderful to watch these young believers see God actually free them from issues they felt there was no hope of being free from. One young student had been a believer for about 6 months and had previously come from a family that worshiped many different kinds of idols. Since early childhood these idols or demons would speak to her. She would believe them and do what they say. One of the messages from early on was that if she hurt herself and suffer she then would be blessed with good fortune or get the answer to what she has prayed for. So for many years she would stab herself with a pencil or sharp metal object on her face, arms or hands for good luck or in hopes that she may pass a test or get the boyfriend she wanted or whatever. After becoming a Christian over the past several months though there was a change in her the voices and message still plagued here. She believed them and sometimes was overcome with temptation to afflict herself. The leader of her student group and her made an appointment with David to discuss the problem and arrange counseling. After just two sessions God delivered and freed her of this condition and the demons left her and she feels she has won the victory over this wicked affliction. David has check 3-4 times since that session and the report remains the same PTL.
The coffee shop plans are still continuing however during last summer, prior to the semester starting, a BIG coffee shop franchise opened up a big shop right across the street from the university where we had intended to go. This coffee shop is not any small operation. It is big and plush. We will pursue the coffee shop/counseling center as we pray for doors to open and financial support to come.
In March Frank will return and continue the ministry with the university students. Please continue to pray and see what God has for China Mission Project in China. We will also keep you updated with what God's is doing and how he is using us. Thank you for all your prayers and support.
